Recommendations of the American Cancer Society for the prevention of malignant disease .. on its world day

The American Cancer Society said, for most Americans who do not use tobacco, the most important cancer risk factors that can be changed are body weight, diet, and physical activity. At least 18% of all cancers diagnosed in the United States are associated with increased body weight. Lack of physical activity, excessive alcohol intake, or malnutrition, and thus can be prevented.

Along with avoiding tobacco products, maintaining a healthy weight, staying active throughout life, and eating a healthy diet may significantly reduce a person's risk of developing or dying cancer.These same behaviors are also associated with a lower risk of heart disease and diabetes.

How do daily habits, such as diet and exercise, affect cancer risk?

Research has shown that poor diet and inactivity are major factors that can increase a person's risk of developing cancer. The good news is that you can avoid getting cancer by following a healthy lifestyle and quitting smoking.

Besides quitting smoking, some of the most important things you can do to help reduce your risk of developing cancer are:


1. Get a healthy weight and maintain it throughout your life

2. Be physically active on a regular basis.

3. Follow a healthy eating pattern at all ages.

4. Avoid or limit alcohol.

The evidence is strong. The World Cancer Research Fund estimates that at least 18% of all cancers diagnosed in the United States are linked to body obesity, lack of physical activity, alcohol consumption, or malnutrition, and thus preventable.
